Why PHERIAA is different- in my point of View



I am speaking all these because I want to convey the message what are the interesting points those had been disturbing me to shape this story or film “PHERIAA Come Back”. The film has not come to public forum, hope very soon a preview screening is going to be held. If you get the chance to watch this film then you will notice the following points that will certainly give you a better taste.

First of all five characters have been shaped as per the Pancha Bhoota. Praksah is Sky . He is idealistic and aims as high as sky . You can mark him wearing a blue T shirt marked as Sky. Jyoti, his wife is the next Bhoota – Bhoodevi or Earth.  She is tolerant, a good mother, a good wife. Even she embraces all her sorrow to her heart. In one dialogue it is being expressed by Uttam, she is closer to the village people than Prakash is. Uttam is Prakash’s friend, is marked as Water (Apa), only support of Prakash in the village. Jhoomuri is the village girl. She is AIR. Yes she can enter any ones house of the village. In the song she also expresses that no one can catch her.  Dandana the dishari is ‘Fire Agni’ . You can first mark him with  heating an iron rod in fire and branding it on a child’s belly (Chenka Chikitsa). Jugani is also again a FIRE Element in this story. When you see her airing the broth to lit the fire she marks her fire element in her charactor. And also She is a quarrelsome lady another fiery element in her charactor.

My aim was to give 3D shape to the characters who will move as per their own nature own manner. The main lead Prakash is such a type of character whom you might have seen in your day to day life- Idealistic, dreamy and also somehow stubborn. He has intended to do something great for his country- so he is idealistic-  and has left his high salary job in America and comes back to his village. Unless he is stubborn he could not have done it. He is dreamy that he feels he would change the village in a day. He is short tempered that he confronts and charges if he finds anything wrong. That may be is his tragic flaw.  So also you can find nice depth of Jugani and her her husband Durya’s character. Which I should not reveal it now but you can mark it when you watch the film.

Pheriaa is a tribute to Jesus Christ. Yes Jesus came to change the society but people crucified him. After his death people cry to call him back. Here Prakash dies and you will find he is lying stretching his two hands and one leg folded as if crucified, by the people. You can mark it in the film. Yes this scene is very close to my heart.

In many  good films you will always find a simpleton child. Here Ripun Prakash’s son has a magical role in giving a pace to the story. One time you will feel why this character is here but later you will find Ripun is the key plot point . If you ask why they don’t have a daughter, but a son ? why a son like in all usual films. Yes, the family have been framed as per a real life story of Aashish  and Ruta who have left their high salaried job and come back to a village in Maharashtra and changed its picture. Even they have given credit in the beginning

This is an Odia film. Odisha is known for its rich tribal culture. So we have tried to keep the story fit in a tribal backdrop. You will find tribal dance in it you will find tribal life and the custom attached to it-  Iron branding treatment, murdering by the name of witch, animal sacrifice etc etc will be seen in this film. Odisha’s number is second as per witchcraft related crimes, Jharkhand is first.  In my career in journalism I have seen crime news related to witchcraft is always coming every now and then to our table. That’s why I thought story of our film will be on witchcraft crime. And also Pheriaa is a crime thriller.  Marriage and death, these two inseparable rituals are always in Indian life. Therefore many great films have marriage scenes or death scenes. Yes there is a marriage scene in this film. A girl is getting married to a dog. This is a unique tradition which is seen in tribal parts of Odisha, Chattishgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. This is very colorful scene of the film. Naxalism is also a part of tribal part of Odisha. You will find this element in this film .
Pheria is film of success and failure. You will find someone has failed for some reason and someone is succeeding for other reason.

Pheriaa is an art film. Usually art films were not having songs. But we thought to go like modern day art films. So it is a new generation art house cinema. We have intentionally broke the linear story telling format – in which story starts from the beginning point and ends at the last point.  But in my point of view, story becomes more challenging when it moves in back and forward style, along with flash backs or reverse story telling.  And Pheriaa is moving like this way. During story discussion we had an argument to end the story just after climax. But my point of view was let’s give a different touch. And our story moves 10 minutes more after climax. In that part the real message lies. I don’t know you will like it or not.

One different touch that came to Pheriaa is that it was shoot in complete natural circumstances. I had never imagined this but it happened and made this film vibrant. Particularly the fair in the last part was a real fair. And the motif music has been created by our music director which is natural in tribal fair- that is called Gurmai in local language has been used in this. One thing happened while we were shooting in a village of Koraput Boriguma that music was played and we found some village women behaved unnatural, they just rolled on the ground (thakurani cought hold them- they claimed) and were out of control. Even we had to stop our shooting, and we could not do this later.

-ବାବୁ ଏ ଗାଁରୁ ଅନ୍ଧାର ଦୂର କରିବା ଏତ ସହଜ କାତା ନୁଏଁ। ( Babu it is not so easy to wipe out darkness from this village.) Actually he means it is not so easy to bring changes in these people who themselves are in darkness.
ଗାଁ ମୋ ବିନା ରହି ପାରିବ କିନ୍ତୁ ମୁଁ ଗାଁ ବିନା ରହିପାରିବନି,( The village can stay without me but I can’t stay without this village.) This is very nostalgic dialogue when I go to my own village. The village is as beautiful as it was without me.

Last and not least  you will find a book in this film repeatedly. That book is E-M Foster’s Where Angles fear to Tread. Focus was not the book but its title. The real proverb is Fools rushed in where angels fear to tread. It is my approach to my audience. Many great persons have tried to make movies of their dream, sometimes people have rejected them. Audience never care in what condition, in what budget, in what toil and trouble a film has been made. They may reject it in a clique. Like a fool I have rushed into making a film. My approach is if you find anything nuisance please please don’t be catchy to all those mistakes Forgive me.   ସୁଜନେ ନ ଧରିବ ଦୋଷ …..

() ମୁକ୍ତି ଲାଭ ଅପେକ୍ଷାରେ ଥିବା ସୁମା ରିୟଲ ମିଡିଆର ପ୍ରଥମ ଫିଲ୍ମ ଫେରିଆରେ କିଛି ଏମିତି କଳାକାରଙ୍କୁ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିବ ଯେଉଁମାନେ ଅଭିନୟ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ବହୁ ମାଇଲଖୁଣ୍ଟ ଅତିକ୍ରମ କରିଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଫିଲ୍ମ ଫେରିଆ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଏକ ନୂଆ ପରିଚୟ ହୋଇପାରିଛି। ଏହି କଳାକାରଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଜୟପୁରର ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠିତ ମଞ୍ଚ ଅଭିନେତା ଜୟନ୍ତ ସାନ୍ତରା ଅନ୍ୟତମ। ପୂର୍ବରୁ ପାହାଡ଼ର ଲୁହ, ପେନସନ, ଚଣ୍ଡାଳ, ଅଲୋଡ଼ା ଭଳି ଫିଲ୍ମରେ ଅଭିନୟ କରିସାରିଥିବା ଜୟନ୍ତ ସାନ୍ତରା, ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଥିଏଟର ଜଗତର ଜଣେ ଜଣାଶୁଣା ନାଁ।  ସୁନୀଲ କୁମାର ଦାସଙ୍କ ପ୍ରଯୋଜିତ ଫିଲ୍ମ ଫେରିଆରେ ଜୟନ୍ତ ଦୁର୍ଯ୍ୟା ଚରିତ୍ରରେ ଅବତୀର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୋଇଥିବା ବେଳେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଏଥିରେ ଭିଲେନ ଭାବେ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିବ। ଗାଁର ଜଣେ ଦୁଷ୍ଟ ପରିବାର ଭାବେ ଦୁର୍ଯ୍ୟା ଓ ତାର ପତ୍ନୀକୁ ଫିଲ୍ମରେ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିବ। ଯେଉଁଥିରେ ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଚରିତ୍ର ପ୍ରକାଶ ସହିତ ତାଙ୍କର ଜମିଜମା , ପାରିବାରିକ ସଂପର୍କ ଓ  ମାନସିକ ସ୍ତରରେ ଏକ ପ୍ରକାରର ଟକରାଟକରି ରହିଛି।
            ଜୟନ୍ତଙ୍କ ଅଭିନୟ ଜୀବନ ଶିଶୁ କଳାକାର ଭାବେ ଆରମ୍ଭ ହୁଏ। ସେତେବେଳେ ଆକାଶବାଣୀ ଜୟପୁର ଦ୍ବାରା ନିର୍ମିତ ବେତାର ନାଟକରେ ସେ ଶିଶୁ କଳାକାର ଭାବେ ଅବତୀର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୋଇଥିଲେ। ଏହାପରେ ଆକାଶବାଣୀ ସହିତ ସେ ଓତଃପ୍ରୋତ ଭାବେ ଜଡ଼ିତ ହୋଇଯାଇଥିଲେ। ତାଙ୍କ ଅଭିନୀତ ବେତାର ନାଟକ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ରାସ୍ତା, ଅନ୍ଧ ପ୍ରତିବିମ୍ବ, କାଗଜ ଫୁଲର ରଙ୍ଗ, ଯାତ୍ରୀ ସର୍ବଭାରତୀୟ ସ୍ତରରେ ପୁରସ୍କୃତ ହୋଇଛି।
ନିଜ କଲେଜ ଜୀବନରେ ବିକ୍ରମ ଦେବ ମହା ବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟ ନାଟ୍ୟ ସଂପାଦକ ନିର୍ବାଚିତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ ଜୟନ୍ତ। ସେତେବେଳେ ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ଅଭିନେତା ଭାବେ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେ ପୁରସ୍କୃତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ। ଏହାପରେ ପରେ ନାଟକ ନିଶାରେ ସେ ଯେମିତି ସବୁକିଛି ଭୁଲିଗଲେ। ଚୌଧୁରୀ ବିକାଶ ଦାସଙ୍କ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶିତ ଆମେ ସବୁ ଧ୍ରୁତ ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ରରେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଏକ ବଳିଷ୍ଠ ଭୂମିକାରେ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିଥିଲା। ଏହାବାଦ, ଦେବଯାନୀ, ମାତୃପୂଜା, ବିଷକନ୍ୟା, ରାମଦାସ ତୁମେ ହାରିଗଲ, ଲୁଲୁବାୟାରେ ସେ ଅଭିନୟ କରି ବେଶ୍‌ ପ୍ରଶଂସା ସାଉଁଟିଛନ୍ତି।
ଫେରିଆ, କମ୍‌ ବ୍ୟାକ୍ ଫିଲ୍ମର ଏକାଧିକ ଚରିତ୍ରଙ୍କର ଡାଏଲଗ କୋରାପୁଟିଆ ଭାଷାରେ ରହିଛି।  ଆଉ ଏହି କୋରାପୁଟିଆ ଭାଷାର ଡାଏଲଗ ଜୟନ୍ତ ସାନ୍ତରାହିଁ ଲେଖିଛନ୍ତି। ଏପରିକି ଫିଲ୍ମରେ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିବ କିଛି କୋରାପୁଟିଆ ଢଗଢମାଳି, ଯାହାକୁ ଜୟନ୍ତ ହିଁ ରୂପ ଦେଇଛନ୍ତି। ଫିଲ୍ମର ସୁଟିଂ ସମୟରେ ନିଜେ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶକ ମିହିର ରଞ୍ଜନ ଆଚାର୍ଯ୍ୟଙ୍କ ପାଖେ ପାଖେ ରହି ଡାଏଲଗଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଉଚିତ୍‌ ଉଚ୍ଚାରଣକୁ ତଦାରଖ କରିଥିଲେ ନିଜେ ଜୟନ୍ତ। ଯଦିଓ ଜୟନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ଫିଲ୍ମରେ ଭିଲେନ ଭୂମିକାରେ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିଛି କିନ୍ତୁ ଅସଲ ଜୀବନରେ ତାଙ୍କ ଠାରୁ ଜଣେ ମେଳାପି ଓ ଶୃଙ୍ଖଳିତ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି ଦେଖିନାହାନ୍ତି ବୋଲି ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶକ ମିହିର କୁହନ୍ତି। ତେଣୁ ଫେରିଆ ଜୟନ୍ତ ସାନ୍ତରାଙ୍କ ଫିଲ୍ମ ବୋଲି ପୂରା ଟିମ୍‌ ମୁକ୍ତ କଣ୍ଠରେ ସ୍ବୀକାରକରିଥାଏ।

Today its poster and trailer released at SOA Hotel Management auditorium. Lead actor Pritiraj Satpathy and Jina Samal, News 7 Editor Ardhendu Das, Prameya group Editor Gopalkrushna Mohapatra, producer Sunil Kumar Das and director Mihir Ranjan Acharya, lyrics ,dialogue writer Dr Nirmal Nayak and Music director Shanti Raj Khosla were present at this time.

Pheriaa Come Back Audio and Trailer Release


ସୁମା ରିୟଲ ମିଡିଆ ପ୍ରାଇଭେଟ ଲିମିଟେଡ ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ର ନିର୍ମାଣରେ ପାଦ ଦେବା ସହିତ ଏହାର ପ୍ରଥମ ଫିଲ୍ମ ଫେରିଆ (Come Back) ଶେଷ କରିଛି। ସୋଆର ପ୍ରେସିଡେଣ୍ଟ ମନୋଜ ରଞ୍ଜନ ନାୟକ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ପରମ୍ପରା ଓ ସାମ୍ପ୍ରତିକ ପରିସ୍ଥିତି ଉପରେ ଏକ ନିଚ୍ଛକ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଫିଲ୍ମ ତିଆରି ପାଇଁ ଇଚ୍ଛା ପ୍ରକାଶ କରିଥିବା ବେଳେ ଫେରିଆ ସେହି ଇଚ୍ଛାର ଚିତ୍ର ରୂପ। ସୁନିଲ ଦାସଙ୍କ ପ୍ରଯୋଜନାରେ ଏବଂ ନ୍ୟୁଜ ସେଭେନର ସଂପାଦକ ଅର୍ଦ୍ଧେନ୍ଦୁ ଦାସଙ୍କ ତତ୍ତ୍ବାବଧାନରେ ନିର୍ମିତ ଏହି ଫି ଫେରିଆ, ଉପାନ୍ତ ଅଞ୍ଚଳର ପରମ୍ପରା ଏବଂ ସମସ୍ୟା ଉପରେ ଆଧାରିତ।
ଆମେରିକାରେ ନିଜ ଚାକିରୀ ଛାଡ଼ି ପ୍ରକାଶ ତାର ଗାଁକୁ ଫେରି ଆସେ ଇଚ୍ଛା ରଖେ ଗାଁ ପାଇଁ କିଛି କରିବ, ଦେଶ ପାଇଁ କିଛି କରିବ। ଯଦିଏ ସହରଠାରୁ ଦୂର ଗାଁରେ ରହିବା ଲାଗି ତାର ପତ୍ନୀ ଜ୍ୟୋତି ଅନିଚ୍ଛୁକ ତଥାପି କେବେ ପ୍ରକାଶର ଇଚ୍ଛା ଆଗରେ ସେ ଆପତ୍ତି କରିନି। ପୁଅ ରିପୁନ ସହିତ ସେ ବି ଗାଁକୁ ଆଦରି ନିଏ। ଉତ୍ତମ ପ୍ରକାଶର ସାଙ୍ଗ, ଏବଂ ଗାଁର ହସମୁଖି ଝିଅ ଝୁମୁରି ପ୍ରକାଶକୁ ଏଦିଗରେ ସହଯୋଗ କରନ୍ତି କିନ୍ତୁ ପ୍ରକାଶ ଅନୁଭବ କରେ ଗାଁରେ ରହିଛି ଅନେକ ସମସ୍ୟା। ଲୋକେ ଡାହାଣୀ ସନ୍ଦେହରେ କାହାକୁ ହତ୍ୟା କଲେଣି ତ ନିଜ ରୋଗୀଣା ପିଲାର ଚିକିତ୍ସା ଗୁଣିଆର ଚେଙ୍କ ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ କରୁଛନ୍ତି., ଏତିକି ବେଳେ ଗାଁରେ ନକ୍ସଲଙ୍କ ପ୍ରାଦୁର୍ଭାବ ବି କିଛି କମ ନୁହେଁ। ତେବେ କଣ ପ୍ରକାଶ ତାର ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଆଗକୁ ବଢ଼ିପାରେ ନାଁ ଆଉ କିଛି ଘଟେ।

ଫିଲ୍ମ ଫେରିଆରେ ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଚରିତ୍ରରେ ଅଭିନୟ କରିଛନ୍ତି ପ୍ରିତିରାଜ ଶତପଥୀ, ଯିଏକି ପ୍ରକାଶ ଚରିତ୍ରରେ ନଜରରେ ଆସିଛନ୍ତି। ସେହିପରି ଜିନା ସାମଲ ତଙ୍କର ପତ୍ନୀ ଭୂମିକାରେ ନଜର ଆସିବେ। ଉଭୟ ଅନେକ ଗୁଡ଼ିଏ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ରରେ ଅଭିନୟ କରିଥିଲେ ବି ଏହା ଏକ ଭିନ୍ନ ରୁଚିର ଫିଲ୍ମ ଯେଉଁଥିରେ ସେମାନେ ଏକ ମିଶନ ନେଇ ଏକାଠି ହୋଇଛନ୍ତି। ସେହିପରି ଲୋକଗୀତ ଗାୟକ ସର୍ବେଶ୍ବର ଭୋଇ ଏଥିରେ ଏକ ଭିନ୍ନ ଭୂମିକାରେ ଅବତୀର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୋଇଛନ୍ତି।
ଫେରିଆରେ କୋରାପୁଟର ଜଣାଶୁଣା ଥିଏଟର ଆର୍ଟିଷ୍ଟ ଜୟନ୍ତ ସାନ୍ତରାଙ୍କୁ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିବ। ଜୟନ୍ତ ଫିଲ୍ମର କୋରାପୁଟିଆ ଭାଷାର ସଂଳାପ ମଧ୍ୟ ଲେଖିଛନ୍ତି। ଜୟନ୍ତ ଦୁର୍ଯା ଭୂମିକାରେ ଅବତୀର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୋଇଥିବା ବେଳେ ମୀନାକୁମାରୀ ତାଙ୍କ ପତ୍ନୀ ଭୂମିକାରେ ନଜରରେ ଆସିବେ। ସେହିପରି କୋରାପୁଟର ଝିଅ ଶିବାନି ଖରା ଏଥିରେ ଝୁମୁରି ଭୂମିକାରେ ଏବଂ ଦେବଦତ୍ତ ପ୍ରଧାନ ଏଥିରେ ଉତ୍ତମ ଚରିତ୍ରରେ ଆସିଛନ୍ତି। ଦେବଦତ୍ତ, କ୍ୟାମେରା ପଛରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଅନେକ କିଛି କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ତୁଲାଇଛନ୍ତି।
ଫିଲ୍ମରେ ତିନିଟି ଗୀତ ରହିଛି। ଏହି ଗୀତ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ସୁନାମଧନ୍ୟ ଚିତ୍ରନାଟ୍ୟ ଲେଖକ ଏବଂ ଗୀତିକାର ନିର୍ମଳ ନାୟକ ଲେଖିଥିବା ବେଳେ ଶାନ୍ତିରାଜ ଖୋସଲା ଏହାର ସଂଗୀତ ସଜେଇଛନ୍ତି।, ଏପରିକି ଏହାର କୋରାପୁଟିଆ ଗୀତଟି ମଧ୍ୟ ନିଜେ ଶାନ୍ତିରାଜ ଲେଖିଛନ୍ତି।
ଏକ ମୌଳିକ କାହାଣୀ ଉପରେ ଫେରିଆ ଫିଲ୍ମ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟବଶିତ, ମିହିର ରଂଜନ ଆଚାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଏହାର କାହାଣୀ ଓ ଚିତ୍ରନାଟ୍ୟ ଲେଖିଥିବା ବେଳେ ସେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହାର ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶନା ଦେଇଛନ୍ତି। ତେବେ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶନାରେ ପ୍ରଥମ ପାଦ ଥାପିଥିବା ମିହିରଙ୍କୁ ଏଥିରେ ଯଥେଷ୍ଟ ସହଯୋଗ କରିଛନ୍ତି ଏମ ଟୁନା, ନିଜେ ଡିଓପି ଅମରଜିତ ମହାପାତ୍ର, ପ୍ରଡକ୍ସ ଡିଜାଇନର ଅମରେନ୍ଦ୍ର ମହାପାତ୍ର(ଲୁଲୁ) ଏବଂ କଳା ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶକ ସଂଗ୍ରାମ ମହାରଣା, କଷ୍ଟ୍ୟୁମ ଡିଜାଇନର ପ୍ରସନ୍ନ ଶତପଥୀ।

Summa Real Media Pvt.Ltd has stepped into Movie production. Sri Manojranjan Nayak President SOA group has personally taken interest to make a film on social issues of Odisha. And SRM (Summa Real Media) has tried its best to make a different kind of film for the film lovers.


Produced by Sunil Kumar das, and concept developed by News 7 Editor Ardhendu Das, PHERIAA Come Back throws light on social issues of remote part of Odisha.  People living there are happy with their tradition, with their music, with their dance and drum. They have taken it granted that so called development is not meant for them. At this time the son of this village who was once a good student and flown abroad for job comes back to the village. Prakash has an intention that he would bring a change into the village. His wife Jyoti reluctant to stay far from city life still never opposes and supports him.  Uttam, Praksah’s friend and Jhumuri  the village girl are support to Prakash.  But Prakash finds lots of problem which create hindrance.  People are dependent on quacks (Gunias) who treat children with hot iron. Pritiraj Satpathy has played the lead character Prakash, the NRI who has come back to his village, in this film. After doing so may commercial movies and winning state award Pritiraj has rendered an exact appearance in this film. Jina Samal played the character of Prakash’s wife Jyoti.  And Raygada boy Sarthak Hota has played the role of their son. Besides noted folk singer Sarveswar Bhoi will be seen in an important role.


Many debutant have rendered eye catching performance in this film. Jayant Santra, noted theatre artist of Koraput has played character of Durya and Meena Kumari will be seen as her wife. Jayant Santra has penned the Koraputia dialoges of the film
Debutant Shivani Khara will certainly draw attention by her outstanding performance so also Devadutta Pradhan, who has played role of Uttam in this film. Graduated in drama Devadutta has also taken key responsibility behind the camera. So also Sagar Bisoyi will enthrall audience by his dance number.
Dr Nirmal Nayak, noted Script and song writer has penned the dialogues  of this film. So also he has penned two out of three songs of the film. Shantiraj Khosla has composed its music who himself penned its Desia song.
Amarjit Mohanty, well known DOP of Ollywood has handled the camera and Amarendra Mohapatra has edited the film Pheriaa, He has also designed the production. Sangram Maharana has handled the art and Prasanna Satpathy has designed costume
Pheria deals with a unique kind of story. Story, Screenplay and direction of the film has been shouldered by Mihir Ranjan Acharya. It is his first film.
Entire film has been shot in  very real backdrop of Koraput. Some part has been shot near Bhubaneswar.
